Hi Shirley (shirl58),

Thanks for getting in touch with us and welcome to our online community.

It must be both frustrating and worrying to have your first check-up cancelled, especially under these circumstances. Sadly, we know that most follow-up appointments have been cancelled or postponed due to the current pandemic.

We would expect these appointments to be rearranged. These decisions are being made at local level as to when normal services will resume. It might be worth getting in touch with your consultant’s secretary to find out when this might be.

In the meantime, it’s important for you to be aware of sign and symptoms. If there’s anything that is concerning you, get in touch with your team at the hospital or your GP.

I hope this information has been helpful, but please don’t hesitate to get back in touch if you need to.

Best wishes

Hi Shirley and a second welcome to the online community.

I recently had my normal 3 monthly check-up changed from face-to-face to a telephone consultation, so I can understand how worrying it can feel when you've not actually be seen by someone.

The consultant asked me all the same things that I normally get asked when I attend the clinic and the only exception was I didn't get my normal head to toe check for anything nasty that might be lurking!

They are hoping that my next check-up, due in August, will be face-to-face again and I hope so too.

You haven't said what sort of skin cancer you were going to be checked for, mine was a melanoma, but if you want to join us over in either the skin cancer group, which mainly has people with BCC and SCC in it, or in the melanoma group then please do. You can then chat to others who are in the same position which often helps.

To join, just click on the link I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post questions after selecting 'start a discussion' and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

When you have a minute, it would be really useful if you could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

I'll keep an eye out for you in case you decide to join either group.
