Hi emerla,

Thanks for getting in touch. I understand you’re waiting to hear about a date for your surgery and that you’re worried this may be delayed due to the current coronavirus situation.

At the moment, hospitals in England have been told to postpone all non-urgent elective operations from 15th April at the latest, for a period of at least three months. However, emergency surgery and cancer operations are still planned to go ahead.

It’s unclear whether a wide local excision would be considered a “cancer operation” as this is more of a preventative procedure to reduce risks of cells becoming cancerous.

If you have any concerns about whether your surgery will go ahead as planned, contact your hospital team. Only they will be able to tell you when this will go ahead.

Best wishes,

Deborah, Macmillan
