I had a total hysterectomy I had to have extra internal stitches due to problems with stopping the bleeding I had an X-ray before I was discharged which showed bleeding around my liver the consultant wasn’t concerned. The pain in my side is still there it’s slightly better but I feel it’s holding me back. It’s two weeks tomorrow when I had the operation I was wondering how long does it take for this to heal? Thanks
Thanks for getting in touch with us, and thank you for the support that you’re giving to others in our Womb cancer group. It never fails to amaze us the support that you all give and get from each other on our Online Community.
It’s natural to feel concerned about the pain that you’re still experiencing and to question how long things will take to heal.
It’s difficult for us on this type of platform to say how long it will take for you heal This is because every woman has different needs and recovers in different ways. Your own recovery will depend upon:
How fit and well you are before your operation
The reason you are having a hysterectomy
The exact type of hysterectomy that you have
How smoothly everything goes and whether there are any complications
For most people it can take at least 6-12 weeks before someone starts to feel like themselves and for their internal wounds to heal after they have had a hysterectomy. So, it’s still early days just now.
We would encourage you to speak to your specialist nurse about the pain that you’re still experiencing. They will be in a better position to give you a rough idea of how long they would expect it to take for you to heal and the bleeding around your liver to be absorbed. They will also be able to review your pain.
Best wishes and take care.
