Waitiing times for Chemo treatement

Posted by

I am waiting for chemo treatment at The Christie in Manchester. My referral was just over 3 weeks ago. I have been told that I am on a waiting list with no indication of when I will get an initial consultation and following on from that chemo treatment. Does anyone know how long this process  takes? Are there timescales from referral to treatment?

Hi Ethantho,

Thanks for getting in touch. I’m sorry to hear that you are waiting to be seen and a decision made over treatment, it must be a very stressful time for you.

There are treatment targets which state you should wait no more than 31 days once a treatment plan has been made to start the first treatment. Sometimes this can vary depending on the type of cancer and the treatment planned. Cancer research UK have more information here.

We would recommend getting in touch with your hospital team to discuss your concerns. Another option may be to start your treatment in another hospital if they are having problems, again this is something you can discuss with your hospital team.

The Patient advice and Liaison service (PAL’s) can also help if you are concerned over the waiting times and treatment delays.

If you have any further questions, please get back in touch.

Best wishes,
