Hi. I’m currently waiting for my 2nd round of chemo( next wk) and I’ve woken up to my arm pit being a bit swollen and the scar where lymph nodes were removed very red with the redness looking like a bruise shape?????? Is this normal?

 Many thanks —-

Hi

Thanks for getting in touch with us

Whilst it’s not uncommon for swelling and redness to happen after surgery, we wouldn’t expect this to be the case 14 weeks later.

We would advise that you give your 24-hour chemotherapy number a call today. It’s important that someone assesses the area to make sure you don’t have an infection and need antibiotics.

This will be the time when your blood count will be low and if you were to have an infection your immune system would not be able to fight it.

If you have a temperature or are feeling unwell, it’s important that you call them or go to your local A&E department right away to be assessed.

Best wishes and take care.

Please don’t hesitate to get back in touch and let us know how you get on.
