Prostate cancer

I have just been diagnosed with prostate cancer, can you give me information on help and support I will need especially for my wife

Many thanks

  • Hello Welshwife,

Thank you for contacting the Macmillan Online Community.

We’re here to support anyone affected by cancer so please let your wife know we’re here for her as well.

We have a team of cancer specialist nurses here on our support line so if you have any questions about prostate cancer, surgery or treatment they’ll be happy to speak to you. There’s also information about prostate cancer on our website and an online community group where people can come together, share experiences and ask questions.

You can find out what local face to face support there is using the ‘In Your Area’ section of website. This includes benefits advisers, support groups and information and support centres.

Our Money & Work team can look at what kind of financial support might be available to you whether it’s grants, benefits or guidance on personal finance such as mortgages and insurance policies. Within the team there are Work Support Advisers that offer guidance on your rights at work as a person affected by cancer.

As you’ve only recently been diagnosed you might want to look at our booklet 'The Cancer Guide'. It aims to help you understand what cancer means and what to expect. It also explains where you can get more information and support. It’s for people living with cancer and their family, friends and carers.

Welshwife how are you coping with the news of your diagnosis? Being diagnosed with cancer is a life-changing experience for most people. It can have a huge impact on your emotions as well as on the practical aspects of your life. We’re here if you and your wife want to talk about how your diagnosis is affecting you both.
