Applying fir student finance

Hi, my son is applying fr students finance as he starts university in Sept. He was diagnosed with a rare cancer, olfactory neuroblastoma, 4 years ago. His treatment is complete but he has long term effects: hypothyroidism, fatigue, developing cataracts, anosmia, short term memory difficulties. Should he apply for disabled students allowance? He gets no other benefits as his PIP finished last year.

The gov.uk student finance website suggests that cancer is something that can be a basis for a claim but gives no other details. Even the smallest grant would be beneficial for him.

Thank you.
