Hello, I am travelling to Cornwall on a coach trip from Lancashire in September. I am looking for a reasonable travel insurance to cover me if I end up in hospital and I then have to make my own way home. I have had a quote for £300 by all clear just wandering if anyone knows of any other travel insurances which may be cheaper. Thank you for your help

  • Hi

    Thanks for getting in touch.

In our experience the best way of finding affordable travel insurance is to use other people’s experiences. If you haven’t already done so, visit our travel insurance blog to see where others are managing to find suitable cover. On our blogs, people are encouraged to post comments about their experiences of finding suitable travel insurance providers.

Another option for finding travel insurance is the Travel Insurance Directory which has been created by MoneyHelper. The directory can be used to search for FCA approved travel insurers who may offer cover to people with pre-existing medical conditions. Please visit their directory by using the link below:

    https://www.moneyhelper.org.uk/en/everyday-money/insurance/use-our-travel-insurance-directory

The MoneyHelper website state specifically which medical screening company is used by the insurer. You may get a variation of price if different medical screeners are looking at your application.

It is always worth speaking to the insurer on the phone, rather than online, to explain the situation and even ask to speak to the underwriter as they may have more flexibility to offer terms. It’s also worth getting quotes from a range of different insurance providers, as the cost of cover will vary a lot.

I hope this information was helpful. If you have other concerns relating to your finances, like mortgage payments, claiming on an insurance policy, or worried about debts, please come back to the Financial Guides on here, on webchat, or by phoning us on 0808 808 0000.
