  • Hi Debbie,

My name’s Donna, I’m one of the cancer information nurse specialists on the Macmillan Support Line.

Thanks for getting in touch and welcome to the Online Community. I see you have joined our womb cancer and emotional support forum. I hope you have found them helpful.

Back in February you had a full hysterectomy followed by some radiotherapy. I hope you have had a good recovery.

You mention lower tummy pain which wakens you and also a change to your bowel habits that have lasted for 3 weeks now.

After surgery and radiotherapy to the pelvic area it is not unusual to have some late side effects. However, as these symptoms you are experiencing are new, we would encourage you to have these assessed as soon as possible.  All new, changing or worsening symptoms should always be reported to your treatment team.

Do contact your cancer nurse specialist today to report these new symptoms, especially as they have carried on now for 3 weeks. If you have no contact details you can contact via the hospital switchboard and ask to be put through to your consultant/surgeon secretary.

If you no longer have details to your treatment team at hospital then do speak with your GP to be rereferred and for advice and support re your pain.

Should your pain worsen in the meantime, do not hesitate to call NHS111 for advice and support.

I hope this information is helpful.

    With best wishes,

    Donna
