My father has been living for a few years with cancer contained in prostate. Recently PSA test result of 24 precipitated a nuclear medicine full body scan, and very soon he will receive a CT contrast scan of the pelvis. Am I correct in thinking it is highly likely the cancer has moved beyond prostate? Thank you.

  • Hi Emseakayf366e6

Thank you for contacting Macmillan Cancer Support. My name is David, one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialist’s on the Macmillan Support Line.

I am sorry to hear of your father’s prostate cancer diagnosis and pending investigations. This must me an extremely worrying time for you all as a family.

We are not in a position to say if your father’s cancer has progressed or not as we don’t have access to his hospital records or test results.

The only people that will be able to give a clear indication of what is going on is your father’s hospital team. We strongly advise you to discuss directly with them in the first instance.

They are however more likely to await the results of the Nuclear Medicine full body scan and CT contrast scan of the pelvis so they have concrete evidence.

These tests are designed to rule in or out exactly what is going on.

If the cancer has progressed, please come back to us for more specific information. Alternatively, Prostate Cancer UK and CRUK are also good sources of information and support going forward.

If there is anything else we can help you with please feel free to get back in touch.

    Best wishes

    David,

    Cancer Information Nurse Specialist
