Hello 10 days ago I leaned forward and under my right breast a sharp pain. Now my rib is sore to touch.  Worse in my bed. Getting up and down from sitting also. I had rectal cancer October 23. A low anterior resection and have an illestomy.  Had 4 cycles of capox. Completed April 2024. I do get bother with joints and muscle stiffness since yhe chemotherapy.  I am worried the cancer has spread to my bones. The rib is sore to touch. Looking for advice. Thankyou

  • Hello Kmck,

    Thanks for getting in touch.

My name is Carole and I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists on the Macmillan Support Line.

I can see from your profile that you have joined a couple of our online forums and have been chatting with other members. I hope you have found them to be good places to both give and receive support.

I can appreciate that you are looking for some advice about the pain you have in your rib, since leaning forward 10 days ago.

It’s only natural to worry about what could be causing it.

Most people have aches and pains at times, and you’ve mentioned that you get bother with joints and muscle stiffness since having chemotherapy.

However, as this is a new pain, and it hasn’t been assessed, we’d recommend that you get in touch with your hospital team, GP or 111 today.

If you are concerned that you need to be seen straight away, you should go to A&E.

    I hope this is helpful.

Please don’t hesitate to get back in touch, here, over the phone, or online, if you have further questions.

    Sending best wishes,

    Carole
