CT scan and Colonoscopy disagree

My husband has a CT scan which apparently picked something up but the colonoscopy, which was especially thorough around  the suspicious area, showed no trace of cancer. They removed a teen pollop but that was all they saw, apart from piles. Now we had a call to say they want to discuss next steps as the results are conflicting. I am very confused and worried. he is very well and has no symptoms now.

  • Hi worriedwifey

Welcome to the online community. My name is Sarah one of the Cancer Information Nurses on our Support Line.

I’m sorry to read that your husband has a suspicious area picked up from the CT. It is understandable to feel confused and worried as the results are conflicting.

Here at Macmillan, we can give general advice and support. We are independent from the NHS and don’t have access to medical records so cannot give personalised information. This means that we are unable to say why the team want to discuss next steps.

Sometimes results are not always clear and although cancer has not been found, there may need to be further discussion and possible tests to confirm this. It is good to hear that your husband is well and has no symptoms.

Feeling confused and worried is understandable as there is still uncertainty about what the CT scan has found. It can be helpful to focus on managing anxiety over this time rather than focusing on what is not certain. Our website has some information about this here.

I hope this information helps. Please feel free to get back in touch if you want more information or support.

    Best wishes,

    Sarah
