4 years after chemoradiation  and brachytherapy for cervical cancer I have severe upper gastric pain that hurts my whole torso  for days followed by a vaginal bleed sometimes there's alot a watery mix of bright blood sometimes it's just a little pink on the paper I've been prescribed lorazeprole? For gas and buscopan but nothing helps  I don't believe it's gas I've tried everything and the pain makes me cry ...could I have a secondary cancer?

  • Hi Nanny dee

Thanks for getting in touch and welcome to the online community.

I can see you have joined the new community forum. I hope you’re finding it helpful sharing your experiences with others.

My name is Paula and I am one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists on the Macmillan Support Line.

I am sorry to hear you’re experiencing severe gastric pain and vaginal bleeding four years since you finished your chemoradiation and brachytherapy. I can understand your concerns and the distress it’s causing you.

Here at Macmillan, we can give general advice and support. We are independent from the NHS and don’t have access to medical records so cannot give personalised information.

We would suggest as you have new and worsening symptoms for some time, to report these concerns to your hospital team or GP as soon as possible. They would want to hear if you’re experiencing any problems post cancer treatment and are in an ideal position to assess your symptoms and investigate them further.

I know this a worrying time for you thinking about a secondary cancer when you’re having symptoms. It’s not unusual to feel this way.

Here at Macmillan, we offer a range of support and services you can access. You may find this link helpful to look at. We also have a cervical cancer forum that you might like to join.

The Eve Appeal also offer a range of support for people living with cervical cancer.   They also offer a nurse information service. You may find these other resources and support helpful too.

I hope you found this information helpful. Please don't hesitate to get back in touch.

You can always give us a call. You can talk to one of our nurses on the support line. It’s a free phone number on 0808 808 0000 and we are here 7 days a week, 8am-8pm or email us.
