Ovarian Cancer Prognosis

Hello,

My Mum has ovarian cancer, it was stage 2-3 two years ago. She's always been asymptomatic, but recently there are signs the cancer is spreading (larger lymph node).

I need an understanding of how much time we may have left together if she decides not to pursue chemo, which is currently her preference. I struggle to ask this directly and she's not said. I will join future apartments.

Any advice would be helpful to me as I navigate this space.

Thank you.

  •  Hello Marinacc,

Thank you for contacting Macmillan. My name is Helen, I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurses on the Macmillan Support Line.

    Welcome to the online community.

I was very sorry to read about your mum and the possibility that her ovarian cancer may have spread. What a difficult time for you both.

It is so hard to be able to give you a useful prognosis, much as we always hope to be helpful. This is because we don’t have access to your mum to make a meaningful assessment of her state of health or have access to her NHS records to understand the development of her disease – two of many factors that are needed to help answer your question.

Would you consider calling us to talk through your concerns? We might be able to help you think about how to communicate your questions to your mum and support her through her future appointments.

Do think about a chat with us as I am sure we can help support you at this very tough time.

    With best wishes, Helen
