Is a swollen face and lips normal after chemo?
Hello RWK
Thank you for contacting Macmillan. My name is Helen, I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurses on the Macmillan Support Line.
Welcome to the online community.
You have asked if it is normal to experience a swollen face and lips after docetaxol used to treat a prostate cancer.
A swollen face and swollen lips might be due to an allergic reaction to the docetaxol, therefore is it VERY important that the person suffering these symptoms calls their hospital’s 24 hr chemotherapy hotline number immediately.
If they do not have this number to hand, they can ring their hospital switchboard (details will be readily accessible online) and ask for the number.
They, or you on their behalf, need to call 999 if the swelling happened suddenly or they are struggling to breathe.
I hope they get the help and support they need quickly.
With best wishes, Helen
