Hello,

I am really struggling with depression following my recurrence of cancer a year after treatment. I feel that there is support whilst going through treatment but nothing when you have finished. Is there any support out there for people like me who have a delayed reaction?

  • Hello Gigi24

Thanks for getting in touch with Macmillan Cancer Support. My name is Michael, I’m one of the nurses from our support line

I am sorry to hear that you have had a recurrence of your cancer a year after treatment. Please be assured that there is ongoing support for you out there at this time.

Unfortunately, cancer can sometimes come back after treatment and understandably this can be extremely overwhelming.

We would recommend booking an appointment with your GP to discuss how you are feeling, as they will be able to offer you support.

Through Bupa, Macmillan are also offering up to four free counselling sessions for people struggling emotionally because of cancer.

Additionally, there are other local cancer self-help and support groups across the UK and we also have our Macmillan Cancer Support Centres

Maggie's is a nationwide cancer support charity too who offer free expert care and support in their centres and online.

It is also important to know that support services are available for you to access, whatever you’re going through if you need urgent help.

You might find it helpful to chat in more detail with one of our nurses or emotional support advisors on the phone, or our online community can offer invaluable support from others going through similar situations.

I hope this information is helpful. Please feel free to get back in touch if you want more information or support.

    Best wishes,

    Michael (Cancer Information Nurse Specialist)
