Dear Mave64,
Thank you for getting in touch with us. I’m Alison one of the Cancer Information Nurses on the support line. Welcome to our online community and I’m glad you’ve reached out to us.
I’m sorry to hear you’re struggling with pain following your surgery and treatment for breast cancer. Pain and discomfort can last for a while after surgery, but it’s important to find out what may be causing this pain and swelling.
We’d encourage you to get back in touch with your breast care nurse, consultant or GP to have this assessed.
Pain can be caused by musculoskeletal damage or nerve damage from surgery or reduced movement. Some gentle exercises can help improve these symptoms, but it can also help to get some painkillers to help make these easier.
Having lymph nodes removed increases your risk of lymphoedema which is a build-up of fluid in the tissue. There are also exercises to help reduce swelling caused by lymphoedema.
I hope this information is helpful. Please feel free to get back in touch if you want more information or support.
Best wishes,
Alison (Cancer Information Nurse Specialist)
