My needle biopsy result as well as my MRI showed I have grade 2 IDC. But my hystology report shows grade 3 with clear margins and Lymph nodes. How can the different reports show different results

Hi Nirs Story,
My name is Keith and I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialist
We hope your finding the information and the support from our online community helpful.
Every one can be affected differently by any cancer diagnosis. During the diagnostic phase of breast cancer, a small sample of tissue(biopsy) is taken to initially diagnose.
However, after surgery the pathologist has more tissue to visualise which gives more detailed information hence the possibility of the grading change.
The other positives you have mentioned in that margins and lymph nodes are clear can be taken as a positive out of the negative. This may possibly reduce the need for further surgery. Looking at this information from Breast Cancer Now will explain pathology results in more detail .
I can see from your other posts that an Oncotype Dx test has been mentioned and possible radiotherapy and hormone therapy.
These are common treatment that would be discussed at this stage and are commonly offered. The general term for these sorts of treatments are more commonly called adjuvant treatments (belts and braces approaches) as a risk reduction strategy to reduce the risks your cancer coming back. I have attached links to all of the above treatments, to explain each in more detail and when they may be offered.
It may be worthwhile to recontact your treatment team to discuss your concerns further. If for nothing else to put your mind at rest
If you’d like further explanation or have any other questions, please feel free to recontact us. By giving us a give us a call or contact us via our web chat platform.

Thank you so much Keith for your detailed reply. It is very helpful.
I am thinking of getting a second opinion just after I get the oncotype dx results. I will probably contact one of the experts to get a reccomendation.
Thanks xx
