  1. Hello I’ve had a GP appointment confirming that I have a lump. I have tests at the breast clinic on 24 sept. However in addition to pain in the breast I’m aching all over, pains in hips, serious fatigue, feel really miserable and have lost my appetite. Odd sensation when I put my arm down against my torso (difficult to explain). Should I be reaching out to anyone or just wait please?
  • Hi Trisha,

Thank you for contacting Macmillan Cancer Support. My name is David, one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists on the Macmillan Support Line.

Sorry to hear of your current symptoms Trisha but, glad your GP has referred you onto the hospital for further tests at the breast clinic.

A lump in the breast is a common symptom of breast cancer. But, most lumps are not cancer. They are usually filled with fluid and called cysts. Or, they are made up of connective (Fibrous) and glandular tissue and called fibroadenomas.

We are unable to diagnose on this platform as we don’t have access to your hospital records or test results.

We therefore tend to err on the side of caution and, advise people that if they have a new symptom, a symptom that persists, gets worse or, is changing then they must report back to their doctor in the first instance, so they can physically assess what’s going on and then manage from there.

The quicker you do this the better. Do not delay in seeking a medical review of your symptoms.

In the meantime, if you feel your symptoms are getting worse, or your condition is deteriorating, please call 111. They will make an assessment and guide from there.

If condition deteriorates further do not hesitate to call an ambulance.

If there is anything else we can help you with please feel free to get back in touch.

    Best wishes

    David, Cancer Information Nurse Specialist
