Is the insertion of hydrogel prior to radiation done with general anaesthetic?
Hi Skp
Thanks for getting in touch. My name is Sarah and I’m one of the cancer information nurse specialists.
Welcome to our online community, I hope you’re finding it supportive.
I see from your profile you haven’t joined any groups. I wonder if our prostate cancer forum would be something you would like to look at. This is where people who are in a similar situation can share their feelings and experiences while also offering support.
Wanting to know more about treatment you may have been recommended to have is understandable.
The hydrogel inserted prior to having radiation to the prostate can be given under either a local or general anaesthetic. You can read more about it here which I hope you find helpful.
If you have any concerns about which anaesthetic your hospital team recommends, it would be a good idea to speak with them before you start treatment. This will give them the opportunity to talk you through the procedure and for to ask any questions.
I really hope this information was helpful. Please know, you can always give us a call to talk things through further.
Take care and best wishes,
Sarah (Cancer Information Nurse Specialist)

Many thanks for your prompt reply Sarah. The video was useful. I had my biopsy with GA as I had difficulty keeping still whilst awake. It went well in the end.
Currently I am making a decision between the SBRT trial with 18 months hormone and the radical prostatectomy. Not easy!
Steve
