Invasive mole

Hi, I was given the diagnosis of an invasive mole (GTN) yesterday at Charing Cross hospital. My hcg taken then showed a drop from the previous week so I declined starting chemo and came home with the view the hcg could keep dropping my itself. The consultant was happy for me to do this. Am I being naive to think this will just right itself? I don’t even know if this is cancer

  • Hi

Thanks for getting in touch with us during what can feel like an upsetting and unsettling time. I’m Linda, one of the nurses from our support line.

It doesn’t sound as if you are being naive, but I wonder if you are now experiencing doubts or concerns about the best way to manage your situation.

We would always encourage you to be guided by your consultant. As well as having guidelines like this one, they will also be using their clinical expertise to look at you as an individual. If they had been of the view that having chemotherapy would be in your better interests they would recommend this to you.

It may be best to get back in touch with the team at Charing Cross and ask if you can speak with the consultant again, to ask about their confidence in omitting chemotherapy.

It may also be worth discussing with them, or one of the clinical nurse specialist team, about the uncertainty over the cancer status too.

If it would help to speak with our nurses on the help line, so we can understand a little more about your situation, you are more than welcome to call to look at how we can support you.
