Hi there, I hope you can help advise me please. I’ve been attempting to minimise my chemical intake and had bought organic shampoo and conditioner with rose Otto.

ive since read that this can be dangerous and even cause cancer?

can you advise please? It’s so hard to know what is right and what is wrong! Are there any organic oils that might be safer shampoo and conditioner wise?

many thanks in advance,

laura

  • Hello Laura,

Thanks for getting in touch. My name is Helen, I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurses on the Macmillan Support Line.

Welcome to the online community. I see you have joined the Kidney Cancer Forum and hope you find it a warm and supportive group.

You have asked about organic oils in shampoo and conditioners.

It is hard to know where to get trusted information isn’t it, but you might be relieved to know that the UK safety laws controlling cosmetics, toiletries and perfumes are extremely strict.

The manufacture and supply of cosmetics is governed by the UK Cosmetics Regulation which means that all ingredients in cosmetics, toiletries and perfumes must be safe to use.

You might also like to look at the Cosmetics, Toiletries and Perfume Association’s  frequently asked questions for reassurance.

Always buy from a reputable shop and of course, be careful of products bought online that may not adhere to the UK Cosmetics Association.

I hope this helps you choose your shampoo and conditioners with confidence in their safety.

Please don’t hesitate to get back in contact by email, webchat or phone, if you need further information or support.
