Hello,

I had two small lesions 4mm and 8mm removed last Friday, my consultant said prior to op that they did look from the previous weeks colonoscopy imaging, they looked benign , but would have to wait for histology for the results.

Can they have a pretty good idea what they expect to find from the look of the imaging prior, I know they do lots of ops and was told by the nurse they have a pretty good idea ??

Still bleeding every other day and a bit painful as one was sitting on a nerve, metrodizol antibiotics does make me feel quite dizzy and light headed.

  • Hi

Thanks for getting in touch with Macmillan Cancer Support, I’m Linda, one of the nurses from our support line.

Waiting for results can be an unsettling time and it’s only natural to try and understand a little more.

Some lesions will have certain visual characteristics that specialists will look for to help to give them an initial understanding of what the growths might be. This might be the shape of the lesion and whether they are round and smooth or irregular and bumpy.

Having the tissue examined under the microscope is the gold standard process for deciding what lesions are. Without this it’s not possible to say for sure. However, with their experience, and though they can’t say 100% that a benign outcome will be the case, they will only advise of this if they have a confidence that this is what it’s likely to be.

With the symptoms you mention it would be a good idea to call the 111 service today for an assessment. Though metronidazole can cause dizziness it might be best to rule out that nothing else is causing you to feel the way you do.

    Best wishes

    Linda, Cancer Information Nurse Specialist
