Hi new here and hopefully someone can answer my question. Still in recovery after full Laryngectomy and have progressed to eating and drinking after a little problem with a leak (the op included using chest muscle flip). So I have been eating and drinking almost everything and up to now the only problem was Lymphadeema (still is) . I’m now using the provox  neck cover and valve instead of just a bib . New problem is the sound I’m making when swallowing sounds like a gulp and an increase in belching which I hardly done until now . Normal or something I should be talking to someone about?

  • Hi Hoops

Thanks for getting in touch and welcome to the online community. My name is Sarah one of the Macmillan cancer information nurses. I can see you are a member of the larynx cancer forum and I hope you are finding it helpful.

It sounds like you are doing well after your surgery and good to read you are now able to eat almost anything. Recovering from surgery and support for managing symptoms is important.

If you experience any new symptoms post surgery it would be best to get in touch with your clinical nurse specialist, speech and language therapist or treatment team for support.

You can also speak with the Macmillan Support Line team of experts. Phone free on 0808 808 0000 (7 days a week, 8am-8pm) or send us an email.
