  • Dear

Thank you for your getting in touch. I'm so sorry to hear about the situation with your husband and that he becomes upset and angry when you try to help him, I can only imagine how difficult this must be for you. I’m very glad you have reached out to us as I hope I can provide some information which may help you get the support you need as soon as possible.

Now although Macmillan don't offer any practical support for the help at night that you need, your husband's GP can make referrals for this as some organisations such as Marie Curie provide this type of nursing support. Adult social services can also carry out a needs assessment and a carers assessment, to see the type of support at home you and your husband may benefit from, such as personal care, equipment and home adaptations. You can self-refer via the link below however sometimes this care can be arranged more quickly if the referral comes from a medical professional such as the GP –

    Gov.uk   Needs   Assessment

And if needed, the GP can also make a referral to the palliative care team, who specialise in pain and symptom management as well as offering emotional support and helping to co-ordinate any additional care that may be needed. The Macmillan nurses are palliative nurses who usually work in this team - we fund these nurses' training and posts which is why they bear our name, however they are actually employed by the NHS and work on a referral basis.

I really hope this information is helpful  And please remember we are here for emotional support too as we understand how difficult a situation like this can be so do get back in touch if you have any questions or need further support.

    Take care,
