Young lady (37) diagnosed with colon cancer

Less than one minute read time.

My girlfriend has been diagnosed with colon cancer. I feel completely lost. I want to help her but don't know what's the best way to do that. She's petite and still loosing weight, feeling weak and tired. What would be good quality food/dishes that would give her energy & much needed calories.
So many questions and not sure where to start- is there support groups/ people that are going through the same thing that we can talk to and it would be great to find someone who's supporting a loved one through this journey, that I could talk to.

  • Hi My Partner has different cancer but at point of diagnosis lost a ton of weight and I didnt know what to cook to build him up, there are prescription milkshakes called Esure I think which doctors can give to make sure nutrition is met, and there are whole websites dedicated to high calorie smoothie/shake recipes for people on chemo - but it has to be appropriate for her condition before you start any diet change, we saw a Macmillan Nurtritionist for free the consultant made a referral pretty quickly to one who was based in the hospital that was super helpful to ask for that for sure.

  • Hi - I recommend you post this in the bowel group and you'll be talking to people best placed to respond, and they will see your post.  Not everyone checks blogs.   community.macmillan.org.uk/.../bowel-colon-rectum-cancer-forum

  • Hi, I will always be here for you to talk to. I’m currently supporting my 49 year old mum with stage 4 cancer and it’s just all to much and sometimes feels unreal! I could go on for ages so if you feel like you want to talk my messages are always open x
