The x ray showed that my lung had expanded well and no abnormalities showing. He discharged me and is now referring me back to the original hospital where i was diagnosed with the cancer. I've had a niggling cough since surgery which is getting considerably worse and now squeaks. He wasn't very happy with the cough but want's the other hospital to sort it out. (passing the buck i think it's called). He said i might need another bronchoscopy to check there's nothing there.

On the whole i 'm really pleased as lung is looking good and been discharged. I prefer the other hospital anyway!

My story

This if my first attempt at a blog post so here goes nothing....lol.

March 09 - Caught a cold off my son, pitched on to my chest, went to doc's, had antibiotics, didnt work, went back admitted to hospital, penumonia! 5 days in hospital, discharged! (I had recurrent pneumonia but not for 7 years.)

May 09 - Had hospital appointment to check pneumonia gone. Pneumonia still showing but not as bad so doctor was happy with progress and said she didnt need to see me again. (I didnt see the consultant i was under but his colleague).

June 09 - Had phonecall from consultant to say that he didn't realise I'd had pneumonia previously (I told them when i was admitted) and he wanted me to have a bronchoscopy asap to rule out anything. Had bronchoscopy on 23rd June. Had results

July 2nd. was diagnosed with carcinoid tumour (very rare form of cancer). Then everything went mad..I saw the doctor who performed the bronchoscopy and then saw the tensovus nurse and then withing half hour had to see the surgeon who was called in from another hospital. He explained the surgery though to be honest i didnt take anything in. Just had the word cancer going around in my head.

July 7th - CT scan

July 16th - Lung function test

July 22nd - Admitted into hospital, due for surgery next morning.

July 23rd - Surgery. I had two lobes of my right lung removed. Surgeon was hoping to just take the middle lobe and connect to upper and lower together (sleeve resection) but wasnt possible as the middle lobe was so bad that the lower one had to come out too,. 7 hours in surgery.

3 weeks in hospital as my lungs kept draining fluid.

14th August - Discharged from hospital...Bit sore and aching but feeling lot better than I thought i would.

10th October - Feeling really well, back to doing everything i was doing prior to surgery. Still bit tight and breathless in the chest but nothing unbearable. As far as i know all cancer is gone. Have post op check up on Tuesday.
