CT Scan on Monday, blood transfusion today - he has blood problems following his earlier Radiotherapy.

Not looking very good.

My prostate is taking a back seat until the next PSA test in April. In the meantime carrying on with Tamsulosin even though it is not very effective. If my PSA is OK, I'm expecting to have a HolRep procedure in May/June. If PSA is NOT ok... who knows?

Not feeling good, not sleeping, worried about my Mum....

Why am I here?

Father was diagnosed with bladder cancer about 5 years ago, urectomy was not an option so they did TURBT with Mytomycin treatement, followed by intensive (37 sessions) of radiotherapy.

He has had regular cystoscopies, and had one more mini-TURBT and Mytomycin, but recently (3-4 weeks ago) had a cystoscopy and was told he needs a full TURBT. Rather concerned as he cannot have a urectomy becuase of other health problems (he is 89 and had a stent fitted because of unstable angina earlier this year. Waiting for the appointment date...

In the meantime, I started having urinary problems arouns April/May this year, didn't think much of it (I was due for a company medical in November) until I had blood in my semen on several occasions.

Went to a urologist who thought it was probably BPH and put me on Tamsulosin. It didn't have very much effect. He also weanted another PSA test done after three months.

PSA so far:-

March 2005 = 0.67

August 2010 = 3.26

December 2010 = 4.77

Saw the urologist last Monday, he mentioned the possibility of TURP to 'bore out' the prostate, but is rather concerned about the PSA rise (velocity is rather high).

So, I am now due to have a TRUS biopsy on 10th January.

Very scared about the outcome (not too worried about the procedure itself, I had a colonscopy a few years ago - false alarm caused by a doc adding 2 & 2 together and coming up with 5, but better safe than sorry!).

The PSA velocity does seem to point to prostate cancer, I'm wondering if it is genetic from my dad and his bladder cancer?

Not sleeping too well, difficult to get motivated for work.......

BTW, I'm 59 in January.

Any words of wisdom, prayers or kind thoughts very welcome!!!!!
