The heartbreak begins

1 minute read time.

Dad died on Thursday morning. After being in hospital 16 days, he passed away peacefully, with all his family around him.

Dad was ready to go. He told us all he was prepared and where he was going was a lovely place. He wasn't afraid, and being so wonderful and brave, he prepared us all. It still hurts like hell though.

We all managed to speak to him alone, from Mum, to his grandchildren...even Calum, the youngest, at 3, spent a little time with Grandad.

My husband and I spent the nights with him, and it gave us valuable and memorable time to speak with him. He planned his funeral with us, telling us who he wanted there, and more important, who he didn't!! He planned everything with us on those long nights. We have no doubt what to do, what music to play, where to hold the wake...he made it all so easy.

Dad was funny, almost to the end, although his final hours were spent deeply asleep, he opened his eyes and looked at us all with such love, in the moments before he passed away.

I will love him forever and miss him so much.

We are proud to be part of my Dads life and his death...and hope he will be proud of us, wherever he is now.

Rest in peace My Daddy....love always.

xx

    Hi Jo,

Firstly big hugs on the loss of your lovely dad ((hugs))

Secondly, he sounded very much like my dad, throughout his illness he faced it with such bravery, saying things that we now know were for our benefit, to help us when he had gone.  I think of him with such admiration and I'm astonished how he could have been so brave whilst probably being so very scared and so sad to leave us all behind.

It is the times in the end when you could talk, hold hands and feel the love that will be your comfort going forward, those times are so precious and not many people get that chance.  My dad was scared how he would die, would it hurt, but it was peaceful, as it was for your dad.  He was tired and ready to go and I think they chose when they want to go, they were ready and I feel so much comfort knowing that dad is no longer suffering, he is safe and warm and at peace.

    Take care xx
