<p>My Dad is in his early sixties, and has been suffering with shortness of breath for some time, and was diagnosed with COPD two years ago. Recently he has had a pain in his side, and went to the doctors for investigations. After two CT scans and a biopsy, he was given the devastating news that he has mesothelioma, which I gather is from coming into contact with asbestos (my Dad used to work for the Gas Board, and has been a plumber and gas fitter for years). He was told that there is no cure for this aggressive type of cancer, and at best he could have two years although the consultant hinted that he should do any holidaying in the next six months. He was given an option of a clinical trial at Papworth Hospital - two choices, one being a mesovats, and the other being the talc option. My Dad has decided today that he doesn't want the mesovats, but will try the talc option. </p>
<p>I can't begin to describe how I feel about it all, as I am not sure myself yet! I feel numb at the moment I guess. I can't quite believe that my Dad won't be around in two years. I have lots of thoughts going on in my head at the moment - too many to mention at the moment.
