My lovely mum who is bravely battling this awful disease suffered a massive stroke yesterday morning. Mini strokes in her early 40's due to antiphospholipid syndrome had caused a significant weakness to her left side which had impaired her hearing, left her arm weak and caused her to walk with a limp. Yesterday the stroke took mums speech and totally paralysed the right side of her body.
Mum was sedated and slept for most of yesterday other being woken by an occasional voice or coughing fit. We watched helplessly as she seemed to be drowning in her own secretions which were just to thick to expel.
This morning after being washed mum looked more alert but not really making eye contact, however as I left to come home to shower I kissed her on the lips and she kissed me back. I thought I imagined it so I gave her my cheek and asked her to do it again which she did. I was so emotional as it really took me by surprise.
The doctors are pleased with the progress she has made over night but they are going to keep her sedated as they said her getting upset is not good for her recovery.
Hugs
