What a difference a couple of weeks make. My mum was diagnosed
with Myeloma, she has since been getting treatment of Chemo and
Radiothearpy. She was looking a million times better than when I last
saw her. She said the pain was ever decreasing and her movement had become
much, much easier.

The Myeloma/cancer is in her back, ribs, left arm, shoulder and
right leg, so these have all been targeted with the radiothearpy. She
said since the treatment started she has felt immediate relief. I was
amazed, my mum was looking younger again. I can't imagine the pain she
must of been experiencing before.

So I got her some 'posh' pyjamas for her birthday – she was rather
chuffed and keen to wear them straight away, she thought she looked
really smart.

I enjoyed our conversations and she told me about her
experiences of how the drugs seemed to be effecting her. She mentioned
several woman on the ward also had similar experiences but did not like
to divulge them incase folk thought they where going mad. I just told my
mum it sounded like she was having a trip and to try and enjoy it, ha!
I think she does!

So all in all a plesant trip to Wales, back up north now and back to phone calls to see how she is getting on.

It started with a gasp...

When my sister phoned and told me our mum had been diagnosed with cancer, Myeloma. A gasp is what came out. I wonder what my mum did when she was told.

Hi, this is my blog about my mum, her health and what effect it has on me and my family.

Funny what goes through your head, mine is usually rather empty or thinking about cakes… I like cakes. However those thoughts vanished — I thought what an idiot! Why did I not think something else was up. My mum had never complained about pain like this.

My mum who lives alone has been ill for some time now, and had been signed off work with ever decreasing health. Chest problems, serious back pain and mobility in general, the doctor kept giving her painkillers and then told her she had suspected osteoporosis. Eventually it was picked up, from a doctor treating her for another condition, (her height had decreased by several inches) We have since found out 3 vertebrates had collapsed. Since then she has been in hospital having chemo and radiothearpy.

So this is were I am at, I travelling to Wales to see her this weekend, it’s my mums birthday (I’m in Scotland), so I will see how she is getting on, and I better get her some cake!
