Chemo starting - with scalp cooler this time

1 minute read time.
Hello I thought I'd invite members to share my journey through chemo which began yesterday. I had begged my oncologist to let me try the scalp cooler this time around and he said OK. So I trooped into hospital at 9.30 yesterday was greeted by the lovely oncology day unit staff who all remember me from last time - had my drip up and the scalp cooler on. The cool cap that fitted me was bright blue - lets just say it may have felt cool - but I didnt look cool!!! :-) My Oncol even popped in to see me just to tell me how ridiculous I looked - how charming of him ha ha. Its a good job I like him. Anyway the staff helped the day go by with laughter and sensitivity so I quite enjoyed dozing in my recliner with my numb bonce! I did make a small request - that they sew on a little bell to the top of the cap so that I can sound like Noddy as well as look like him. My chemo regeime is GemTax which i will have 6 cycles of providing I am responding ok. The next session is wednesday when I will have the gemcitabine again. The scalp cooler was on from 10 am till 5pm - I had ice crystals in my hair when I took it off! Had to get in the taxi with wet conditioned hair - taxo driver was very polite and didnt ask any questions but kept looking anyway! So feel Ok this morning - woke at 4am planning to clean the kitchen cupboars - thats streiods for you! Well had better go now and drink 75 pints of water or something - at least Im not feeling sick anyway! I hope that new chemo patients will join in here and add their stories and especially those who are trying scalp cooling too - and how it is going for them. Finally thanks to kt and Denning for thier best wishes and John for remembering me in his prayers. hope to hear from someone soon Jools x
