(hypertrophic cardiomyopathy) After 2 years experimenting snaring the tumours and burning the area they were in with argon lasers had my stomach taken out 10 years ago. Mistakes happened during the operation and I have been left in a lot of pain. No one expected me to live for long after. In fact I stopped going to the hospital after being told that “If the cancer comes back or your heart goes, there's nothing we can do about it so your wasting our and your time coming here” by a doctor. To cut a long story short after a few years the wife left me and brought me out and kept the house. I had a rubbish job and no one else wanted give me a decent job or new mortgage with my health problems. I have a couple of small pensions coming in so with the money from the house I got a motorhome and decided to see Europe and spend the money having a good time before I died. Trouble was with my luck I never died and the money ran out. I still live in the motorhome and have tailored my life to fit my circumstances.
About 18 months ago Mum (she's 87 and still goes swimming in the sea most days) was diagnosed with cancer of the womb and had chiemo and a hysterectomy they thought it had cleared up then last year it was back. I came home booked into a campsite for a year to be close and help look after her After another course of chiemo things looked good until it came back again. The third lot of cheimo has been to much and her fingers have swollen up. Yesterday she went to hospital for results of tests and its back again. On Tuesday she goes back into hospital for more tests and to decide what to do next.
We've both treated cancer as something akin to toothache. It comes you get it treated the pain goes away and you get on and live with what's left. But since finding this site a short time ago and reading other peoples stories for the first time I'm scared. Not for me but for Mum.
I know the sites a great comfort to many and I originally came on to try and help others but now I'm beginning to think. Was it better before I knew and never took it seriously.
