We are still in touch with Jim, although its not as often as we'd like, so the information is a bit disjointed.

Anyway, since Jim's protracted stay in hospital after surgery things haven't been too good for him. He's still fighting but it seems he's having a tough time of things with some infections. Understandably he's a bit down about it and it seems to us, from the information we have, that Jim is not getting the medical support he warrants.

The latest information is that he is now in a hospice. We are hoping its just a short term respite care stay, to get him back on course with his recovery.

Jim's wife rang yesterday morning. He's had some more problems that are keeping him in hospital still. It sounds like its the same thing Mike had a while after he was discharged. It might be rather fortuitous for Jim that this has happened while he is still in hospital, so they can fix him up before he goes home. He's able to walk around OK using a stick and all of the hardware had been detatched from him too by the sounds of things.

It seems he's a bit down in the dumps too poor thing. Then again who wouldn't be. He had hoped to be home and recovering well by now but instead he's still caged up.

Mike has written him a letter in the hope that it might cheer him up a bit and if he's still in the hospital be the end of this week we'll print out your well wishes from this site and send them to him also.

Lets hope this is just a little glitch that gets put right for him very soon.

Hello one and all,

Some of you might remember my hubby Mike, some of you may not. Whatever, he is a survivor, OFFICIALLY! He went to see the surgeon today to get his check results 1 year after his op. This is a post he placed on a different Cancer Website he subscribes to:

Well, just got back from Gatwick Park Hospital.

The surgeon himself came out to the waiting area, to call us in to his consulting room this afternoon. Elaine always comes with me to these bashes, as she remembers to ask the questions that I don't. So, me and the doc are walking into his consulting room with Elaine tagging on behind and he is asking about the consequences of my latest speeding ticket. Yep, another petrol head. On the way into the room he turns to Elaine and says "oh yeah, by the way, all the results are just fine, now Mike, how many points did you get and how much was the fine, did you follow my advice?". If it were physically possible, I would have pee'd myself laughing. What a wonderful way to break such magnificent news.

He showed us all the films and results and went to every organ in my body and showed us there was no evidence of any cancer. From my head down to my groin. NO MORE CANCER, NO METS !!!! I could have cried. The relief was wonderful; everyone in the world should have the option to experience such euphoria as that, but not via a cancer option.

He was surprised I was going deaf though, I SAID, HE WAS SURPRISED....

LET THE GAMES BEGIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry we've been a bit lax. Jim's wife phoned us on Friday and left a message to say that Jim was still in hopsital but improving. Then, tonight, as we were walking home Jim text'd us from the hospital so we rang him straight back. He sounds quite chirpy but a bit tired but I guess thats to be expected. After all he is of a good age to go through such a radical operation. Anyway, he has had a couple of wee problems but they have been sorted out for him and he is obviously improving. It seems that he will be in hospital for a few more days yet, but he told us to say hello to all his buddies here and to tell you all " I'm fightin' it !!!!!". I don't doubt he is.

Lets hope he continues to improve and gets home soon. All the best Jim !!!

Mike just spoke to Jim's wife. He had the op on Monday and all went well. He's been talking to his wife and apparently he's quite chirpy. He must e doing OK I guess to be chirpy the day after such an operation. They tried to get him out of bed into a chair today but he's still a bit weak and wobbly. I'm amazed they even tried so soon after such extensive surgery so again, he must be doing well. Lets hope so anyway.

I'll continue to post any news here as it comes in.

Having said I hardly ever pop in, here I am again.

My hubby, Mike On The Bike and Jim stay in touch quite regularly. Some of you may know that Jim is off to hospital today, Saturday 6th. His operation is scheduled for Monday.

I'm sure everyone here wishes him all the very best and hopes that the op is successful and Jim recovers very soon.

His wife will be in touch to let us know how Jim is doing and as soon as we know any news, we'll post a blog to let you all know whats happening.

Hello,

I am Mrs Mike On The Bike. I hardly ever visit this site any more. Those who have sent messages and/or submitted buddy requests to Mike might be wondering why he has not responded. He isn't ignoring you but quite a few weeks ago he decided to leave this site and has asked Admin to delete his account. Unfortunately he still gets e-mail prompts/confirmations to his off-site e-mail address.

He is active as a Cancer Voice supporter for Macmillan so some of you may well come in to contact with him there. He also keeps in touch with some of his What Now buddies via, FB, phone or e-mail.

Mike On The Bike

Mike has decided to call time on the Macmillan Community website. He will still be a Cancer Voice volunteer and may well browse here once in a while. He has asked James to delete his account. He also contributes on a Bladder Cancer Forum/Chat website in the USA so some of you may bump into him there. Time to move on.

Those folk who had contact with Mike will probably know that, following his operation in March 2009 he is now free of cancer and is looking forward to enjoying the second phase of his life. I can vouch for the fact that he is now in better health than he has been in many a year. Lets hope that his amazingly good fortune rubs off on you all.

From what I can gather he rather feels the site has lost its way a bit and is not as supportive as it was when he was very ill just over a year ago. I know he is very thankful for all the support he had been given over the time when he was ill and enjoyed being part of the community.

There are quite a few folks here that contact Mike by phone or e-mail and I guess also that he'll stay in touch with them.
