20190528 - The Worst has happened

1 minute read time.

After my quarterly check up early March, everything was hunky dory. I came back to Scotland for 3 months. I started making plans for the future.  Trip to Canada in July, Tenerife with my sister in September,  even thought about throwing myself a 60th birthday party in November! Funny how life has a way of kicking you in the teeth when you least expect it. Beginning of April started to feel unwell with lower back and abdominal pain. Thought I'd just overdone things at the gym. GP said he wasn't worried as my March check up was clear. By Easter weekend I had lost 5kg and wasn't eating.  Eventually,  I went to a different GP who did bloods and my creatinine levels were quite high. Called my oncologist and decided to return to Luxembourg earlier than planned so hopped a plane on 3rd May. Went to hospital on Saturday morning only to be admitted immediately.  My kidneys were two days away from being irretrievably damaged and I would have needed dialysis. I had to have stents fitted to both my kidneys within about 3 hours of arriving in hospital. To cut a long story short the cancer has now metastasized to my peritoneum. Things are looking quite bleak. I need 4 more chemo sessions of FLOT. I had the first one last Wednesday and Thursday but could only be given 50% of the dosage because of my kidneys. The oncologist didn't want to waste time waiting for the kidney levels to fall as he needed to preserve my life. Had a laparoscopy a few days before chemo started and I'm still waiting for the biopsy results. If my tumour tests positive for Herceptin that will be the next line of defence. Please God, throw me a break and make it positive because if not........
