Cancer; causes, cures, and cakes.

3 minute read time.

First off, as a random aside, LID is well and truly out of the window today as lunch consisted of a bed of a sandwich. It was a mattress made of Hovis seeded bread, with a mattress cover of butter, made up with a sheet of tart mayonnaise. Then prawns and perfectly ripe avocado were tucked into bed, with a duvet of smoked salmon. I was planning a yoghurt as pudding, but after one slice, I felt ill so had to give up on food for now. Least it all keeps. :D

Anyways, onto the random thoughts that began last night. I was posting in the thyroid group, and came up with an interesting thought that relates to the previous blog post I made on turmeric and the other things touted as cures and causes of cancer, and how it makes those of us affected by cancer feel. The thought I had, was to be a little tongue in cheek over it all. Perhaps for the next Macmillan Coffee Morning, I would arrange one for somwhere in Leeds and bake for it as I have done in the past. Only this time, everything made would relate to something that claimed to cause or cure cancer. If I remember rightly, the coffee morning is normally held in September time. So that gives me plenty of time to recover from the recent RAI, then experiment and develop recipes (I'm a professionally trained baker/confectioner/chocolatier) that contain at least one of the 'offending' ingredients.

Which means I'm going to need your help folks. I can do a bit of googling and such, (I dread to think what ads will pop up after I collect all of these cookies!) but the people who are going to know more than anyone about all the claims out there, are the folks affected by cancer. Because we're the ones who get all the articles shared to us by well meaning friends and family. Or we may have come across them in ourown googling of our conditions and treatments. So I'd love it if you could share in the comments, as a list, all the things you've been told cure or cause cancer and I'll then compile them here in the main post. So if it's already in the list, no need to list it again. This way I have a project to keep me out of mischief mentally and physically. lol. And if I can tempt people to come to it, and make it a reality, Macmillan benefits too. Win win.

Please do comment and help me add to my list. Partly just to see how ludicrous the claims are, but also to give me a good list and range to make things from. Also, if you'd be interested in attending this or something like this - let me know. Because it would be interesting to know if this is something I should just do for friends again, or if perhaps I should make it more of a public event and go large with it. I'll also happily share any recipes I come up with for these ingredients, if anyone would like to try making them themselves. Just let me know. I have a feeling, future blog posts may contain comments and notes on how these trials will be progressing. Perhaps even photos of successes and disasters. Who knows. lol. Either way, it'll be a bit of a giggle I think! My poor test subjects..... aka friends. They won't know what's hit them!

I was told by a Chinese Herbalist that Goji Berries can cure cancer.  No idea what they are, I lost interest when he said they cost £20 for a tiny bag!

  • I had totally forgotten about them! They're nasty little things that have a bitter taste and a drying effect on your mouth. You can get them in Tesco these days. Still expensive, but not £20 a pack if you wanted to try them out.

Ah so that's what they are.  Doesn't sound very appetising, especially for someone like me who suffers with dry mouth!

I'm enjoying your blog, look forward to reading your next post.  xx

  • Yeh, def not the best imo. I tried them a while ago when I heard they were meant to be good as anti oxidants and such. Wasn't an experience I rushed to try again. Lol.

Glad you're enjoying my randomness. I'm planning one this afternoon about the fun of online dating. Just trying to get some food into myself first, so fighting nausea with seafood..... XD
