Check up with the consultant.

1 minute read time.

Had my check up with the consultant and it was a weird to be back at the RBH. It brought it home to me there is nothing else to conquer now and it's just me allowing my body to recover.

Popped in to work before hand which I think threw me menally because everyone tells you you look great even though you are feeling dreadful inside. Then you feel like you ought to be feeling better than you are then you're down on yourself.

Got to the ENT outpatients for a 3.45 appointment. Same initial excitmemt to be called almost straight away only for it to just be the weighing nurse. In a foolish attempt to hide some of the weight loss I was happy when she weighed me in my coat and boots. Then the delay. I heard the nurse saying they were 5 min appointments. These aren't conversations that can be had in 5 min with most of these people. I started to need to put my head down as I was feeling so exhausted.

Ended up being called in at 5.15 by which point I was well and truely wiped out. I admitted to not drinking enough Ensure because I was fed up with it. I admitted to the fact that in my weight monitoring I've lost about 20lb not the 9 lb they thinking. ( 1st weigh in summer- flip flops and leggings- today boots, jeans and a coat!)

Everything looks good inside my mouth apparently but my tongue is rather swollen. I've been put in steroid for that and to give me some appetitie apparently. After a long wait at pharmacy I eventually made it home and went straight to bed. The steroids come with a scary little " you must carry this at all times" card and a whole list of conditions. My husband looked them up and was amused to tell me Wikipedia may not be telling the truth ..... Non Medical Uses Dexamethasone is given in legal Bangladeshi brothels to prostitutes not yet of legal age, causing weight gain aimed at making them appear healthier and older to customers and police. So I'm on drugs that are given to underage prostitutes to make them fat!!!!! Nice!

Hi DLC, I'm on that dexamethasone too, for the second time. Have already lost the yellow card, tsk tsk. Last time it kept me awake all night, this time it's not so bad. Maybe I'm on a smaller dose, can't remember. I'm on it mainly for appetite too. If it helps with this, it's only marginal - not enough for me to put any weight on. Oh I know that trick of wearing boots and heavy coat when they weigh you! Anyway, good luck with the steroid but don't take it for so long that you land up looking like a plump prostitute!

    Best wishes, dyad

  • Hi Dyad, What time of day do you take it? She did say to me try and take it in the morning, but yesterday it was about 1 pm. Not sure if that's why I'm wide awake now. My tongue definately feels smaller though I think. I'm on 2 per day this week, 1 next, and one every other day the 3rd week.

Defo only take in morning, or it will keep you awake. It's mimicking your natural cortisol which wakes you up in the morning. I take before 9.00am. Good luck!
