What the bloody hell is wrong with me?!

1 minute read time.

3 courses of antibiotics, 3 nasal sprays and a tube of antibiotic eye ointment later and there's no improvement!

I seem to be spending most days visiting my local chemist and buying anything I think might unblock my hooter!! Decongestant spray, olbas oil, vicks vaporub, saline nasal rinses, I'm breathing steam as recommended by the doctor 4 - 5 times a day,  2 hot showers a day but nothing seems to work for any length of time.

As the days go by other symptoms seem to be creeping in like pressure build up in the ears, severe headaches, stinging behind the right eye and nose, more blood from the right nostril, lymph nodes popping out both sides of the neck and finally the icing on this crap cake my right eye seemed to have started to move across my face!

I became pretty certain that something a bit more serious was happening and decided to call NHS111. After explaining my symptoms they referred me to my local A&E. This was exactly where I didn't want to go in the middle of the Coronavirus peak! It was a very surreal experience, all the staff with masks and full face visors on, temperature checks, signing a declaration to say I had no covid symptoms, it felt tense!

After being cleared to go in and waiting maybe half an hour in the A&E waiting room I was called in to see the doctor. I told him a few of my symptoms and he basically snapped, so you have come to a high risk area during the coronavirus pandemic with a blocked nose and a headache!! I argued my case with him and told him about the lumps on my neck, he quickly checked these and said, I dont think these are cancer but I'm going to refer you to another hospital with an ENT department to have it checked out.

Finally, I'm going to have it checked out properly!!

  • Hi Chippy

I've had the same symptoms since I was little so 60 yrs of it.  It seems to be worse with dry heat - radiators in winter - or hay fever.  Instead of being runny I get bunged up which leads to pressure / pain.  The best solution I have is to eat regularly (including snacks), keep hydrated (use hydration powders), and just try to ignore it as best I can.

I did have an op years ago to clean them out and help straighten the passageways but it gradually returned.  I think that it is just something I have to live with and I know it could be a lot worse so just put up with it.

    Hope this helps.
