Going abroad? Having difficulty accessing affordable Travel Insurance?

"Travel insurance" written on a picture of sand and seashells

Summer’s officially here, and I’m sure a lot of you are about to embark on getaways abroad to enjoy some well-deserved time away, or perhaps recuperate from treatment.

Unfortunately, if you’ve been diagnosed with cancer, insurers are all too often reluctant to offer affordable travel insurance, as they consider you far more likely to make a claim. However, the Community’s got your back through both our Travel insurance group and monthly Travel insurance round-up where you can hear from others who’ve managed to access affordable insurance.

Here are a few highlights from the group and blog to help you in getting the best insurance deal you can…

Recommended Travel Insurance

It does exactly what it says on the tin – members share their experiences getting travel insurance, and recommend insurers they’ve gotten good deals from.

Hurrah we found travel insurance for mum!

In May, Deme posted advising she was struggling to find insurance for her mother. Just four days later posted in the group to say she’d an insurer, and thank those who posted offering support.

"So thank you to those who posted, and I hope this helps someone else in the same predicament as we were!"

What do I put…

Unsure of what box to tick, or what to write down on a travel insurance form? Do what Zola76 did and put your question to the group – our members are on hand to offer their support and guidance.

Travel insurance round-up

Azmina, from our Information team, shares success stories from the Travel Insurance group in a monthly blog. Find June's post here if you’re in need of a ‘pick-me-up’.

Have you an experience accessing travel insurance you’d like to share? Go ahead and do so in the comments section below, or visit our Travel insurance group and post there.

The Information and support section of our website also has a wealth of information on travel and holidays – find it here.

 •
Hi ,

My name is Ellen and I’m one of the nurses who work with the Online Community. Jimmy has asked if I would answer your question.

You’re right to say that our booklet about physical activity and cancer does say

"that when you are diagnosed with cancer in the UK, some information about you, your cancer diagnosis and your treatment is collected in a cancer registry. This is used to plan and improve health and care services. Your hospital will usually give this information tothe registry automatically. There are strict rules to make sure the information is kept safely and securely. It will only be used for your direct care or for health and social care planning and research."

Insurance companies do not have access to this.

You might find <a href="www.cancerresearchuk.org/.../what-is-cancer-registration information about the Cancer Register useful to read.

Best wishes -Ellen-Macmillan Online Digital Nurse Specialist.
