Hi all, I’ve been browsing the board for the past couple of weeks, purely for informaton purposes but now feel it is time to join in. Following an ‘out of the blue’ rectal bleed at the end of February I went to see my doctor who initially thought that it could be internal piles...

Michael and I would just like to thank everyone who helped us through what has been the most awful year for us. Michael had his operation to remove his lower bowel and rectum, APR, at the beginning of August and he is doing brilliantly. Although having a colostomy isn't ideal he has adjusted to it...

I have an ileostomy bag following colo-rectal cancer 3 years ago. I have a permanent infection as the rectal re-section did not work and my surgeon has referred me to get a colostomy to make my life easier as the ileostomy keeps leaking. Any views on this?

Hi MEJ, I had Rectal Cancer two years ago, and took capecitabine tablets, but didnt suffer any side effects with this drug apart from a slight sore throat which I remedied with Manuka Honey. My husband was diagnosed in August with rectal cancer at age 42. He has had radiotherapy and chemotherapy to try and shrink the tumour but unfortunately it didn't shrink very much. Is due to have his operation on the 27th of this month with a strong possibility that he will have a permanent stoma...

Having pleaded for an ileostomy and subsequent reversal some 11 months later after a ultra low anterior resection I find managing my bowel movements somewhat problematical even after four years. My consultant will not really listen to or give advice on diet or techniques, he just pats my arm and asks...
