    Hi Lee Thyroid cancer diagnosis has a alot to do with age with regard to size, type and spread. When below 40 it doesn't matter what size your primary tumor is or if it has spread to the lymph nodes, it would be classed as stage one and is usually papillary like you have initially been told. ...

    Hi Vintage There are different types of neck dissection, it basically means cutting out the lymph nodes (glands as we would know them as) in the side of the neck or around the thyroid at the front if they know its spread to the lymph nodes. I only had one side done, as ChelleT says, you don't remember much after you come round, the surgeon had said he was going to go further up the left side when I was a asleep to make sure, but he must of thought it wasn't needed.
