  • Blog Post: Allergies, Anaphylaxes and that sort of thing...

Hallo again! I'm one of those people who has lifelong problems with certain drugs and foods. Mostly, my anaphylaxes (which is a severe form of allergy which is life-threatening therefore I have to avoid certain drugs) are fairly common; things like Penicillin and Elastoplast. But, unfortunately...
  • Forum Post: Re: New to the group. Wanted to say hello

Hi Tooldle, You're right, it is progress for your Dad. The waiting is hard but it's good to be going forward. Mum seems ok so far with the chemo. She's feeling tired but is coping. It's tough for her as she is only having fortisips and build ups and she loves her food so much. I hope...
  • Forum Post: Re: New to the group. Wanted to say hello

Hi Tooldle, Good luck today. Thinking of you. My Mum started her chemo last Wed and was in all day having it. They found stage 1 breast cancer so they're giving her tablets for that also. She seems ok so far but is tired. She's got 3 cycles of chemo treatment and then they'll hopefully...
  • Blog Post: Tiredness, MacMillan Organizer & General Musings

This is probably only going to be of interest to me! I seem to be becoming more navel-gazing as the days go by but, even if this blog serves only as a record for me to look back on, that's ok! I was diagnosed with leukemia about a year ago. I'm never sure in things which have public viewing...
  • Forum Post: Trying for a baby

Hi folks, Not sure if this is the right place to be chatting about this but just wondered if anyone had been through similar. My partner was diagnosed back in 2009 with a brain tumour. To cut a long story short he had 6 operations, suffered a brain haemorrhage and spent almost 5 months in hospital...
  • Forum Post: Concerned about upcoming chemo...

Hi all, I recently had surgery to remove a tumour from my colon, and was told I was a Dukes B. I am just out of hospital and recovering from surgery, and my oncologist wants to get me going on adjuvant chemotherapy this week (2 weeks after surgery). I have some questions... Firstly, I would imagine...

  • Forum Post: Re: Don't think decorating and chemo mix

Just had one cycle of Tax, couldn't hack it. Ended up in hospital with neutropenic sepsis!! Felt awful with the pains and exhaustion. Oncologist is putting me back on Fec which I tolerated well. Admire anyone who can manage the whole Tax thing.
  • Forum Post: Re: Chemo decision, advice required

Hi HilaryAnne My situation was similar to yours, tumour 3cm, Grade 3, but was ER+, PR+, HER2-. Three nodes removed, one of which was affected by cancer. By choice I am having chemo. Originally FEC-T, but my one and only experience of TAX was a bit of a disaster so my oncologist has put me back on...
  • Forum Post: peripheral neuropathy trials - duloxetine

Hi - its a while since I posted. I wondered if anybody else had been offered to go on the duloxetine trial. my Oncologist has just prescribed the tablet an anti-depressant which offers benefits for those of us who are suffering with peripheral neurapathy (numb fingers / toes and in my case 'bum'...
  • Forum Post: Keeping your head warm at night during chemo

Hi, has anyone got any recommendations or tips on hats, caps and other methods of keeping your head warm at night. My Hubby is beginning to lose his hair after his first round of chemo and I'm worried about his head getting cold at night. At first I thought a fleece hat might be a good idea but then...
  • Blog Post: Last chemo done and dusted! 4th April 2013

My sixth and last FEC chemo was on the 22nd April. The side effects hit me harder again this time, but here I am nearly two weeks on and I'm slowly recovering and I am feeling better each day. The sun is shining and that always makes you feel better! The hypnotherapy sessions to tackle my needle...
  • Blog Post: Background story

Hi folks I start chemotherapy on Tuesday 2 April 2013, something I would assume all of us thought and hoped we would never have to face. I decided to start this blog to give me something to do something to focus on if things became difficult. However talking to other I thought that maybe my story...
  • Forum Post: Coping with B.E.P Chemotherapy

Hi everyone I was just wondering if anyone here has been through BEP (Bleomycin, Etoposide, Platinol) chemotherapy for Testicular Cancer? My younger brother is just about to start 3 months of it tomorrow at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital in NYC and I'm really worried about the side-effects...

  • Forum Post: Re: not responding well to abvd

ABVD did give me the usual ill-effects (weakness, fatigue, loss of taste / appetite, sore mouth, hair loss, wrinkling and darkening of skin and nails etc) but the 'B' (Bleomycin) so badly scarred my lungs after the 4th dose that breathing became painful and laboured even after a short walk. My...
  • Forum Post: Re: Supplements & Chemotherapy

HI diva All I can tell you is that when I first began this journey, I had Omega 3 fish oils and a multi-vitamin tablet on my meds list. Nobody said I should stop taking them. I also asked chemo nurse if it was ok to have probiotic drinks and she said yes that was ok. The only other thing I can...
  • Blog Post: 4th March 2013

Phew, the weeks are still whizzing by! I had chemo number 5 last Friday and thankfully the cannular went in first time, so no tears or shaking from me for a change. I told my youngest daughter, that my appointment was an hour later than it was as I didn't want her to witness the distress I get...
  • Blog Post: 16 February 2013

I can't believe how fast time is passing! Chemo number 4 came and went on Friday 8th Feb. My veins are not playing ball as they are painful after previous chemo's, so after two attempts a doctor was called and the canular had to go in on the inside of my arm. I'm still trying to find a local...
  • Blog Post: 2013 - and stable

Sorry about the gap between posts . Where was I? Part-way through a course of chemotherapy for CUP (cancer of unknown primary) in chest and throat lymph nodes ... and I suddenly realised it's been four months of treatment, and a right drag at that. I think I've been fortunate. I've had a...
  • Blog Post: Chemo number 4

I quite enjoyed today... if such a thing is possible. I took myself off to my chemotherapy, with a bottle of water and a book I wanted to finish (One Man and his Bike by Mike Carter if you're interested..it made me laugh out loud and spit sandwich on my knee). I got a corner chair, took my...
  • Blog Post: 22 January 2013

FEC chemo number 3 under my belt, yay! It was touch and go as to whether I would get to the hospital last Friday after a very heavy snowfall in Cardiff. Having had my chemo delayed the week before due to my low blood count, I was determined to get my chemo! I even googled how long it would take me to...
  • Blog Post: 16th January 2013

Where has the last few weeks gone!! Well I'm glad to report that Cinders did go to the New Years Eve ball in the end! I managed to get a last minute place on the day, so hurriedly packed my posh frock and sparkly bandana and checked in at the hotel with my six friends! I had a couple of glasses of...
  • Blog Post: Fertility and horrible cancer treatment options

Some of the more attentive of you may have noticed that I don't yet have children. Despite rumours of screaming, and no sleep, and tantrums in shopping centres, for some reason I still seem interested in them! So far in life the fertility gods have not been that helpful, and that was before...
  • Blog Post: Been a little while since my last blog

It’s been over a month since I was on here last and a lot has happened. My December Chemo wasn’t that great, I felt ill after both lots with the one on Christmas Eve being the worst. My taste buds went haywire and everything tasted like nothing you would really want to eat! Christmas...
  • Blog Post: 30th December, 2012, day 9 of second round of chemo and I'm feeling goooood!

So, having dreaded being laid up in bed over Christmas, I am so glad to report that I had a great one and ate all my christmas dinner and even managed some Buck's Fizz and mojitos! Despite the disruption of flooding and bugs, all my children managed to travel to me and they wouldn't let me lift...
