ABVD did give me the usual ill-effects (weakness, fatigue, loss of taste / appetite, sore mouth, hair loss, wrinkling and darkening of skin and nails etc) but the 'B' (Bleomycin) so badly scarred my lungs after the 4th dose that breathing became painful and laboured even after a short walk. My...

Hi Stacey The bone marrow aspiration was done right in the beginning (Jan 2010) along with the biopsy of a malignant node tissue that was extracted from the abdomen. Tests showed bone marrow was free from disease (they use the term 'uninvolved') but the sample lymph node tissue showed HL....

In remission

Hi The PET/CT scan of 23 Nov was clean and the docs have cautiously declared me to be in remission. They also bombarded me with statistical data and convinced me that the high dose chemotherapy and blood stem cell transplant is worth going for despite the risks and costs! Presently off all medication...

Hi I was diagnosed with Stage 4-B in Jan, and after 12 doses (6 cycles) of ABVD, the disease remained. I just finished 3 cycles of MINE salvage chemotherapy. A PET-CT scan scheduled for end Nov should hopefully give me an all-clear. All these months, I have had very low energy, nausea, loss of hair...

Hi For what its worth, in my case (Stage 4-B), the disease still exists after 12 doses (6 cycles) of ABVD, and I have just finished 3 cycles of MINE salvage chemotherapy. A PET-CT scan scheduled for end Nov should hopefully give me an all-clear. Still, doctors are strongly recommending that I follow...

Hi Rather than wait, I would advise you to get a scan, if I am not wrong, blood tests can sometimes fail to detect a relapse. I was diagnosed with HL in Jan and after 12 doses of ABVD failed to clear the disease in Aug, I am now due for my 3rd and final cycle of MINE salvage regimen next week,...

Hi Your story is quite similar to mine. Diagnosed in Jan. Interim PET-CT scan in Apr after 6 doses of ABVD showed near complete response. Sometime after the 7th dose, Bleomycin-induced lung damage was detected and this drug was omitted for the final 5 sessions. Final PET-CT scan after 12 doses showed...

Hi emziee01 We have quite a lot in common..after a very promising response to ABVD, after 6 cycle (12 doses) the disease relapsed in the form of 3 new malignant nodes in the chest. At no time was there any node that could be seen/felt externally, at its peak there were 35+ malignant nodes/nodules...

Hi Gill Thanks, but I'll pass on the clinical trials as I think I have had enough toxins already, which I looking forward to dilute with some beer. Yes, the ABVD course was administered without a break or delay at mainly 14-day intervals, as between doses I gave myself WBC booster injections....

Relapse of Hodgkin's lymphoma - change in chemotherapy and advised stem cell transplant

Male 55 - diagnosed with disease in Dec 2009 - underwent 12 doses of ABVD chemotherapy between Jan and Aug 2010. Although the intermediate PET-CT scan in Apr showed almost complete regression, the final scan in Aug revealed 3 new malignant (max SUV 25) paratracheal nodes. A thoracoscopy was done and...
