We are Macmillan. Cancer Support
Qucik history, dad 72yrs DX May 09 stage 3B had left lung removed , chemo gem/tab (finished October 09) and then 16 sessions of radio which stopped because oncologist, in response to dad not feeling well, saw dilated chest and arm veins on left side and puffy neck and felt enlarged lymph nodes in the neck. Had a CT scan which said little except 'asymmetry in left supra clavicular fossa with small lymph nodes present' no size or anyting else. Doc says felt about 1cm. rest of body seems clear from scan.
They are assuming that cancerous and want to do radio without a biospy.
To me this seems a bit quick of the mark; no one has ever examined his neck that we can remember and its not been mentioned on scans.
Surely a biospy to conclude that cancerous a good idea - so don't have unecessary radio - also to exclude possibility that chemo not battered it!
His weight is now stable after losing while on radio.
Any thoughts please are very welcome!
