  • This may seem like a really stupid thing to complain about: I have had a mx on tuesday and now the whole side is soooo itchy! Has anyone had this and what can I do?

There are no problems, just challenges!

  • During surgery they cut through nerve endings and it screws up the sensations in the affected area. It will settle down with time but you could see if keeping the area cool will help. Try some ice in a plastic bag wrapped in a towel. You could also ask the nurses here on the site - they operate Monday to Friday 9am to 8pm on freephone 0808 808 0000.

    Best wishes,

  • hi congenial i had a lumpectomy and re-excision of my right boob in 2006 and it STILL itches.... drove me mad at first but now i just scratch away and its not so bad... at first it was quite sore too following surgery... but now six years down the line and although its unlikely to go away its not as bad as it was at the outset.... i sometime slather aqueous cream and that helps a bit.

i had a lumpectomy to the other side in 2009 and excision biopsy in 2001 on the other side and neither of them itch.... just must be the way its healing.... i found kinda scratching it with a credit card or something similar was better than my nails and also covered a bigger area.

fingers crossed you get some relief from it.... but i do feel your pain cos its most annoying.

    big hugs xxx

    Love Lulu xx
