Don't understand

  • I've not posted on here before, but I've read a fair few posts and found peoples' comments really helpful.  My mum was diagnosed with bladder cancer in Feb.  But it was contained, and she had 3 rounds of chemo, and was told it had responded really well.  So we had a 6 week wait between the end of chemo, and a radical cystectomy (sp)  and also a hysterctomy.  However, when the surgeons did a quick pre op scan.  They discovered the cacner had grown massively, and had wrapped itself round the pelvis, so was now inoperable.  So we begin pallative care.  I just can't believe we have gone so quickly from being totally finished with cancer, to now being told its terminal.  Has anyone else had such a quick turnaround of situations?

  • I am so sad for you & your Mum to have this experience. It does seem to be the nature of bladder cancer that when it progresses, it does so with a vengeance. Hence the need for close monitoring and radical treatment. Best wishes to you both.
  • Its just such a shock, one minute its almost finished with, and now we have to live with it and watch it get worse.  Nobody has any idea re time left.  Its so hard
