  • I have just started freaking out. I was shocked by the news. Fine with the concept of the surgery but the more reading I do about life after a thyroidectomy and ongoing fear of recurrence and the side effects of the drugs and not haivng a thyroid the more freaked out I'm getting. Now I'm at the point of tears and just can't stop thinking about it. I would really really like to hear lots of great post thyroidectomy stories please! And lots of good advice would be nice too. Boooo hoo. Details: papillary cancer about 1 cm and it doesn't look like any nodes are effected. I'm 41 and otherwise healthy. I only found out because I was tired and was wondering if I was hypothyroid. Well now I am certainly gonna be!

  • Hello Atfirst.   I am sorry that you have been diagnosed with thyroid cancer, it is indeed a trauma but you have come to the right place for help and support. As my cancer was floor of mouth, I don't know much about the thyroid but there is a group here called Thyroid Cancer where there are some lovely people who can advise and help you through it. So do join them and post there ... click on the groups tab at the top and type ' Thyroid cancer ' in the search box, click and it will take you to that group where you can join. Take care and best wishes.
