  • My brother went into hospital a couple of weeks ago with a raised temperature. He was diagnosed with kidney cancer, which has spread to stomach, pancreas and heart. It is inoperable, and though we don't yet know his prognosis, it can only be months, maybe weeks. Can anyone give any advice on how we as a family can get our heads round this. We don't have much time, and we want to support my brother, but we are all so stunned.

  • Dear ourgrenni,

What a terrible shock you have all had.  Hopefully you won't have long to wait until you get more information about your brothers prognosis.  Having his family there supporting him and caring for him will be so important and comforting to your brother.  There is a lot of information on this website in the cancer information section from the practical stuff to how to talk to someone in your brothers situation which you may find useful and you can always phone the macmillan helpline for advice and support (0808 808 0000).

There are lots of people in this group who will understand what you are facing and how you are feeling and you will find lots of support.
