Day 1 of Cycle 2

1 minute read time.
We arrived at the Oncology ward by 9:20am - too early as usual and were allocated a nice room looking out towards the surrounding countryside. Within half hour hubby was sitting comfortably in the big armchair, pillow under his arm and hooked up to the first of many intravenous bags. Day 1 is always a long one - 16 continual hours of various concoctions (including the chemo). Drip drip drip - it's like watching paint dry! It is boring but in a pleasant way - I imagine every little drip being a big hammer and smashing the tumours to bits. By now, the small room is covered wall-to-wall with yesterday's Sunday Times. It's 11am and I make tea and we eat a bit of today's cake. Hubby has his 2 laptops with him but he's busy dealing with emails on his Blackberry - work is never far away! By now he's almost finished the long saline flush and the house doc arrives to see if he's in fit condition to continue with the chemo - he takes one look at the room and you can tell that way before he's asked any questions, he knows that hubby is more than fit to continue. The Chief Oncologist nurse brings over the blood results from last Thursday and goes over them with us - they are a bit lower (as expected) but still in the 'safe' realm so she hooks up the first of the chemo bags. It's a quiet day in the Ward as there is only hubby and one other lady so I sit back and listen to the drip drip drip.... At about 4pm hubby is given his bed - this time a private room just off the Oncology Ward. He's very happy with this as last time he was in the open ward and next to a guy who was coughing and sneezing - not great when your immune system is only working on half its cylinders. Despite the 'nice' room he still wanted to hatch a plan for me to rescue him in the middle of the night and that's what we did. I picked him up at 2am - and within half an hour he's tucked up in bed at home fast asleep. Still can't quite believe it's going so well.... T X

I'm glad to hear things are still going well with the chemo. It made me smile when I read that your hubby had two laptops and a Blackberry with him. I am always joking with A that he might be able to persuade the medical team to hook up his Blackberry as well as him when he has his op - as he doesn't spend a second without it! ;-) I hope everything continues just as smoothly. Wishing you both the very best. T x
